As these poems were written between 1996 and 2003 by teenagers who are now adults, the surnames have been left off. I knew her, did you? by Jessica

I once knew a maiden ,
Who lived in the glen,
Piled up on her head were fiery red tresses,
She waltzed through the trees with her recherche dresses.

They called her Rose Marie,
She ran throught the meadows so gracefully,
Picking all the flowers down in the vale,
Riding on her mare down through the dale.

Rose Marie nurtered all of the creatures,
Then drifted away slowly, to take care of her features,
She sat outside, under a blossoming tree,
Inhaling the scent, of each bloom, like a bee.

Sometimes, I'd see her by the stream,
Looking like she had just stepped from my dream,
I'd call to her, she'd pretend not to hear,
Twisting a strand of red hair behind one ear.

Slowly she walked away from me,
Running and hiding behind an oak tree,
Finally, I would catch her wrist,
I held fast, though she did twist.

She'd soon get away,
Not wanting to stay,
She would jump on her mare,
And all I could see was her trailing red hair.

I chased after her on my sable horse,
Rose Marie was filled with remorse,
Slowly she came off of her mare,
Patting and fixing each strand of her hair.

We set out a blanket, with bread, wine, and cheese,
I asked her a question & she answered with ease,
"Brave soldier, I thank thee!"
Then she vanished from me.
