Teenager's Poems
1996 to 2003

As these poems were written between 1996 and 2003 by teenagers who are now adults, the surnames have been left off. If you want to reclaim a poem and have your name attached please contact teenmag@irelandcalls.com. We can add your name or remove the poem. Better still, give us a paragraph about yourself to add to your poem.

My Own Star to Keep by Unknown

As I feel the night begin to wink away,
and the sun comes out to barge in day.

I slowly rise from my moonlit bed,
and let the leaving dark bathe the top of my head.

I reach up to the heavens with my curious hand,
and pluck down a single star from his own foreign land.

I let him shine so bright and blind my prying eyes,
before I close my fingers around my glowing prize.

As the day begins with a warm and luring sun,
I place him gently in my pocket and go on with my day's fun.

But, as the hours grow old and the sky begins to turn,
I take him from my pocket just as his glowing love begins to burn.

Then I nestle him in the wrinkles of the velvet dusk,
and admire him with a lover's lust.

There I know he'll be to watch over me while night takes her stay,
And when morning comes he'll be there to warm my pocket once again for the day.
